Acupuncture is well known to treat pain, but it treats more. This article (pages 50-54) is titled "The Use of Acupuncture in the Childbearing Period." It summarizes well what acupuncture treats during this period.
Infertility: acupuncture treatments increase sperm count & motility, increase pregnancy rate when used with conventional treatment in assisted reproductive technology such as IVF, and improve ovulation rate by influencing gonadotropin-releasing hormone.
Morning sickness: acupuncture provides a safe treatment for the mom and baby, dealing with nausea & vomiting.
Other pregnancy issues: again, a safe treatment to ease the pregnancy discomforts such as insomnia, back & pelvic pain.
Labor: labor induction & pain relief
Lactation: Acupuncture treats engorged breasts, reduced milk supply. The article reports the acupuncture can cause too much of milk supply, but we have a way to deal with that as well.
Acupressure point for Nausea: If you see nothing else, please see the pictures of page 54 of this article. It shows how to find PC6 (nei guan), a wonderful point for nausea.
